I have a verbal rental agreement with my landlord in Alabama?

My landlord agreed on may 31 the same day the original one year lease was up; he agreed verbally that for me; the tenant to have Air conitioned fixed with no rent being paid in june; and for me to occupie premises in july in return for the deposit which he stated he cant afford to pay me back. He did not write out a contract; i had used june rent and had AC fixed the same day; we called him and recorded the conversation of the extra two months cause i figured he would try to pull something; and futhermore a week later i recieved a letter of eviction ; saying i should move within 10 days by his lawyer; what can i do; i do have the verbal agreement recorded; will this be recognized in the court of alabama; What should I do?
