Will I be able to rent an apartment?

My boyfriend and I need to find an apartment but I have no rental history and he has an eviction on his record. We both have full time jobs and will have no problems paying the rent every month. My credit rating is average. Are any places going to be willing to rent to us? Will they let us only put my name on the lease since he has the prior eviction? I know these are stupid, simple questions but I've never had an apartment so I have no idea how it works. Thanks!
